timelykālena orvā untimelyakālena orvā;
truebhūtena orvā falseabhūtena orvā;
gentlesaṇhena orvā harshpharusena orvā;
beneficialatthasaṁhitena orvā harmfulanatthasaṁhitena orvā;
with a heart of lovemettacittā orvā with secret hatedosantarā orvā.

even thenTatrāpi by youvo, monksbhikkhave, thusevaṁ should be trainedsikkhitabbaṁ:
not‘na andceva ourno mindcittaṁ degeneratevipariṇataṁ will becomebhavissati, notna andca badpāpikaṁ speechvācaṁ we will blurt outnicchāressāma full of sympathyhitānukampī andca we will remainviharissāma with a heart of lovemettacittā notna with secret hatedosantarā.

and thatTañca personpuggalaṁ imbued with lovemettāsahagatena with a heartcetasā pervadingpharitvā we will remainviharissāma, and with that as basistadārammaṇañca the entiresabbāvantaṁ worldlokaṁ like a catskin bagbiḷārabhastāsamena with a heartcetasā abundantvipulena expansivemahaggatena limitlessappamāṇena free of enmityaverena free of ill willabyābajjhena pervadingpharitvā we will remain (quote)viharissāmā’ti.
thus indeedEvañhi by youvo, monksbhikkhave, should be trainedsikkhitabbaṁ.

with a double-handledUbhatodaṇḍakena even ifcepi, monksbhikkhave, sawkakacena banditscorā low-downocarakā limb from limbaṅgamaṅgāni were to severokanteyyuṁ, even thentatrāpi whoeveryo the mindmano should corruptpadūseyya, notna myme heso therebytena a follower of the instructionsāsanakaro.

do you seePassatha at allno youtumhe, monksbhikkhave, anytaṁ course of speechvacanapathaṁ, smallaṇuṁ orvā largethūlaṁ orvā, whichyaṁ youtumhe could not endure? (quote)nādhivāseyyāthā”ti?
no“No indeed thishetaṁ, venerable sirbhante”.
therefore“Tasmātiha, monksbhikkhave, thisimaṁ on the simile of the sawkakacūpamaṁ adviceovādaṁ frequentlyabhikkhaṇaṁ keep in mindmanasikarotha.
thatTaṁ for youvo will bebhavissati for a long timedīgharattaṁ for welfarehitāya for happiness (quote)sukhāyā”ti.
this saidIdamavoca the Blessed Onebhagavā.
satisfiedAttamanā thosete monksbhikkhū of the Blessed Onebhagavato the wordsbhāsitaṁ approved (quote)abhinandunti.
