where“kahaṁ nownu indeedkho, sirsbho, at presentetarahi thatso worthybhavaṁ Gotamagotamo he dwellsviharati?
desiring to seeDassanakāmā forhi wemayaṁ himtaṁ worthybhavantaṁ Gotamagotaman”ti.
Esa“Esa, Aggivessanaaggivessana, blessed onebhagavā great woodmahāvanaṁ having plunged intoajjhogāhetvā at a certainaññatarasmiṁ root of a treerukkhamūle for the day's meditationdivāvihāraṁ seatednisinno”ti.

I might ask“puccheyyāhaṁ the worthybhavantaṁ Gotamagotamaṁ somekiñcideva pointdesaṁ, ifsace to meme the worthybhavaṁ Gotamagotamo opportunityokāsaṁ makeskaroti of a questionpañhassa for answeringveyyākaraṇāyā”ti.
ask“Puccha, Aggivessanaaggivessana, whatever you wishyadākaṅkhasī”ti.
how“Kathaṁ thenpana the worthybhavaṁ Gotamagotamo disciplessāvake guidesvineti, on what topicskathaṁbhāgā andca thenpana of the worthybhoto Gotamagotamassa to disciplessāvakesu instructionanusāsanī usuallybahulā proceedspavattatī”ti?
thus“Evaṁ indeedkho Iahaṁ, Aggivessanaaggivessana, disciplessāvake guidevinemi, on these topicsevaṁbhāgā andca thenpana myme to disciplessāvakesu instructionanusāsanī usuallybahulā proceedspavattati:
form‘rūpaṁ, monksbhikkhave, impermanentaniccaṁ, feelingvedanā impermanentaniccā, perceptionsaññā impermanentaniccā, choicessaṅkhārā impermanentaniccā, consciousnessviññāṇaṁ impermanentaniccaṁ.

in this way theseEvamete plants and seedsbījagāmabhūtagāmā growthvuddhiṁ increasevirūḷhiṁ maturityvepullaṁ achieveāpajjanti.
just asSeyyathāpi or indeedpana, worthybho Gotamagotama, whicheverye thesekecime hard workbalakaraṇīyā taskskammantā get donekarīyanti, allsabbe theyte the earthpathaviṁ depending onnissāya on the earthpathaviyaṁ groundedpatiṭṭhāya.
in this way theseEvamete hard workbalakaraṇīyā taskskammantā get donekarīyanti.

just soEvameva indeedkho, sirbho Gotamagotama, whose self is formrūpattāyaṁ an individual personpurisapuggalo in formrūpe establishedpatiṭṭhāya meritpuññaṁ or wickednessapuññaṁ or they brim withpasavati, whose self is feelingvedanattāyaṁ an individual personpurisapuggalo in feelingvedanāyaṁ establishedpatiṭṭhāya meritpuññaṁ or wickednessapuññaṁ or they brim withpasavati, whose self is perceptionsaññattāyaṁ an individual personpurisapuggalo in perceptionsaññāyaṁ establishedpatiṭṭhāya meritpuññaṁ or wickednessapuññaṁ or they brim withpasavati, whose self is choicessaṅkhārattāyaṁ an individual personpurisapuggalo in choicessaṅkhāresu establishedpatiṭṭhāya meritpuññaṁ or wickednessapuññaṁ or they brim withpasavati, whose self is consciousnessviññāṇattāyaṁ an individual personpurisapuggalo in consciousnessviññāṇe establishedpatiṭṭhāya meritpuññaṁ or wickednessapuññaṁ or they brim with”pasavatī”ti.

is it not“Nanu youtvaṁ, Aggivessanaaggivessana, thusevaṁ you sayvadesi:
form‘rūpaṁ myme selfattā, feelingvedanā myme selfattā, perceptionsaññā myme selfattā, choicessaṅkhārā myme selfattā, consciousnessviññāṇaṁ myme selfattā’”ti?
I indeed“Ahañhi, worthybho Gotamagotama, thusevaṁ I sayvadāmi:
form‘rūpaṁ myme selfattā, feelingvedanā myme selfattā, perceptionsaññā myme selfattā, choicessaṅkhārā myme selfattā, consciousnessviññāṇaṁ myme selfattā’ti, and thisayañca bigmahatī crowdjanatā”ti.
what indeed“Kiñhi to youte, Aggivessanaaggivessana, bigmahatī crowdjanatā will dokarissati?
pleaseIṅgha youtvaṁ, Aggivessanaaggivessana, your ownsakaññeva statementvādaṁ unpacknibbeṭhehī”ti.
I indeed“Ahañhi, worthybho Gotamagotama, thusevaṁ I sayvadāmi:
form‘rūpaṁ myme selfattā, feelingvedanā myme selfattā, perceptionsaññā myme selfattā, choicessaṅkhārā myme selfattā, consciousnessviññāṇaṁ myme selfattā’”ti.

by this“Tena thenhi, Aggivessanaaggivessana, the very same I will ask you abouttaññevettha I will ask in returnpaṭipucchissāmi, asyathā to youte it may be pleasingkhameyya sotathā itnaṁ you may explainbyākareyyāsi.
thatTaṁ whatkiṁ do you thinkmaññasi, Aggivessanaaggivessana,
would there bevatteyya of a kingrañño an aristocratickhattiyassa anointedmuddhāvasittassa in his ownsakasmiṁ in the realmvijite powervaso—
those who have incurred executionghātetāyaṁ or to executeghātetuṁ, those who have incurred finesjāpetāyaṁ or to finejāpetuṁ, those who have incurred banishmentpabbājetāyaṁ or to banishpabbājetuṁ, such asseyyathāpi of kingrañño Pasenadipasenadissa of Kosalakosalassa, such asseyyathāpi or thenpana of kingrañño of Magadhamāgadhassa Ajātasattuajātasattussa son of the Videhan princessvedehiputtassā”ti?
would there be“Vatteyya, worthybho Gotamagotama, of a kingrañño an aristocratickhattiyassa anointedmuddhāvasittassa in his ownsakasmiṁ in the realmvijite powervaso—
those who have incurred executionghātetāyaṁ or to executeghātetuṁ, those who have incurred finesjāpetāyaṁ or to finejāpetuṁ, those who have incurred banishmentpabbājetāyaṁ or to banishpabbājetuṁ, such asseyyathāpi of kingrañño Pasenadipasenadissa of Kosalakosalassa, such asseyyathāpi or thenpana of kingrañño of Magadhamāgadhassa Ajātasattuajātasattussa son of the Videhan princessvedehiputtassa.

that is, of the VajjisSeyyathidaṁ—vajjīnaṁ of Mallasmallānaṁ—

those who have incurred executionghātetāyaṁ or to executeghātetuṁ, those who have incurred finesjāpetāyaṁ or to finejāpetuṁ, those who have incurred banishmentpabbājetāyaṁ or to banishpabbājetuṁ.
