pr 2nd sg of āmanteti (verb); aor 3rd sg of āmantesi (verb); aor 2nd sg of āmantesi (verb)
Analysis. ā + √mant, with the prefix ā- reversing the direction of the root: 'turns toward (someone) with counsel or address'.
Etymology. √mant (to think, counsel) appears in Skt. mantrayate 'deliberates, counsels' and is related to Skt. manas 'mind' and English mind (both from PIE *men- 'to think'). The prefix ā- (toward the speaker) converts the root's introspective sense into interpersonal address: thinking toward someone becomes speaking to them.
