3rd singular future indicative
Analysis. ṭhassati (future stem) + iti (quotation marker "thus"); the compound marks quoted speech or a report of what will happen: "he/she/it will stand—thus" or more naturally in English, "it will remain", "it stands [the case] that".
Etymology. ṭhassati is the future of the root √ṭhā "to stand, remain"; cognate with Sanskrit sthā- (sthāti "stands"), Greek stásis (στάσις, "standing, position"), Latin status and stāre, English stand. The root is old Indo-European *steh₂- "to stand, set up". The future marker -ssa- is regular in Pali (compare bhavissati "will be" from bhavati), appearing also in Sanskrit -sya-.
