pr 3rd sg of adhivāseti (verb)
Etymology. adhi (on top of, presiding over) + vāseti (causative of vasati, to dwell/remain). The concrete sense is 'causes to dwell/remain on top of' → 'bears up under', hence 'endures' and 'assents to'; related to Latin vastus (but that is a different root) and English wait (Old English wǽtan, obsolete), though the Pali path here is clearer through the Sanskrit adhivāsayati.
