accusative singular masculine of agāra
Etymology. From a- (not, without) + √gṛ (to hide, cover; Sanskrit gṛha "house"). The prefix a- negates: literally "un-hidden" or "uncovered", hence an open dwelling-place. Cognate with Latin horreum (barn) and English yard in the sense of an enclosed space.
