Etymology. ahu (day) is the neuter noun stem cognate with Sanskrit ahan, Greek hēmera (through metathesis and ablaut), and English day (< Proto-Germanic *dagaz); all descend from PIE *eh₂- 'to go' or a related temporal root. The verbal aorist ahosi is from √ah 'to be', cognate with Sanskrit ās, Greek ēn 'was', and English is, Latin esse — the most archaic and suppletive form of the copula.
