reflx imperf 3rd sg of ahuvā (verb); imperf 2nd pl of ahuvā (verb); aor 2nd pl of ahosi (verb)
Etymology. Root √as, 'to be', cognate with English 'is' (Old English 'eom'), Latin 'esse', Greek 'einai' (εἶναι), and Sanskrit 'asti'. The Pali aorist stem ahu- is found throughout the Indo-European family: Sanskrit 'āsīt' (imperfect), Lithuanian 'asai' (you were). The form ahuvattha represents the 2nd plural with thematic vowel -a- and personal ending -ttha (cf. Skt. -tha).
