  1. aja (masc): goat
  2. ajā (fem): she-goat

Etymology. From Proto-Indo-European *h₂aǵ- (to drive, lead); cognates include Sanskrit aja-, Greek aigós (αἶγός), Latin haedus, and English kid (via Germanic). The root originally meant 'the driven one' (an animal herded), later specialized to the goat. Pali aja shows regular phonetic development from the Indo-European term.
