pr 3rd sg of akkhāyati (verb)
Etymology. Derived from √akh- (to say, speak) with the ā- prefix (toward, completeness) and the present stem suffix -ya-. Related to Sanskrit akhyāyati. The prefix ā- adds directional and completive force to the root's sense of speaking or narrating: "speaks forth", hence "is said, is reported". The -ya- suffix forms the present stem.
