avinīta

masc nom sg of avinīta (pp)

  1. untrained (in); uneducated (about); undisciplined (in)

Built from

Etymology. a- (without) + nīta (led, guided), past participle of nayati (leads, conducts). The word expresses the absence of training or moral guidance. Sanskrit nayati and cognate Latin navis (ship, as that which is guided/steered) both stem from PIE *sneh₂- (to turn, guide); the concrete sense of 'leading along a path' becomes the abstract sense of 'training' or 'discipline'.
