disvāna

absolutive (past participle) of dassati

  1. having seen

Built from

Etymology. √dassati (causative of √dṛś, 'see') forms the absolutive disvāna by dropping the -ti and adding the absolutive suffix -vāna. The root dṛś (Sanskrit dṛṅ-, 'see, behold') is cognate with English 'direct' (via Latin dīrigere, 'point out') and Greek derkomai 'see'. The causative sense 'to show, make see' is typical of the -ya formation in Pali.
