fem nom sg of eta (pron); masc voc sg of esanta (prp); nt voc sg of esanta (prp); reflx aor 3rd sg of esi (verb)
Etymology. From PIE *e-s- (demonstrative stem 'this'). Cognates: English is (from the same PIE copula *es-), Latin est, Greek esti. The stem eta- (nom masc etaṁ, fem esā, nt etaṁ) is the Pali continuation of the ancient demonstrative pronoun; the feminine nominative esā shows the regular ablaut and gender marking of the early Indo-European pronoun system.
