ind
Etymology. From Indo-European *ewo- or *ewa- "one, alone" (cognate with English "ewe", Sanskrit eka "one"), the particle preserves the sense of isolation and singularity that evolved into the emphatic and restrictive meanings. The final -a is an indeclinable suffix characteristic of Pali adverbial particles.
