  2. issā (fem): jealousy; envy
  3. issi (aor): was envious; was jealous (of)

Etymology. Root √is (to wish, desire); related to Sanskrit iṣ- (to seek, desire) and possibly Indo-European *h₂ey- (to desire, strive). The feminine abstract issā develops from the sense of covetous wanting—a consuming inner state. The sense of jealousy arises from wishing what another possesses.
