Etymology. From the demonstrative stem i- (this, here) with the adverbial suffix -ti. Cognate with Sanskrit iti, Greek i-σ-τε (iste, you-all), Latin is-te (you-all, from the same i- stem). The suffix -ti forms adverbs from pronouns and demonstratives across Indo-European languages.
