Etymology. Related to kilati (is troubled, burnt out). The root kilā- (to burn, to be exhausted, to suffer heat-damage) is cognate with Latin caleo (to be hot, to glow) from PIE *kel- (to burn, be warm, suffer). The sense develops from physical burning or heat-exhaustion to general fatigue and distress.
