masc nom sg of kupita (pp)
Etymology. From ku- (bad, wrong) + √pi (to swell, agitate). The literal image is of anger as a swelling or turbulence of mind — being shaken up. Sanskrit kupita; cognate with English puff, German Puff (a push or blow), from Indo-European *peu- 'to swell, blow'. The prefix ku- (bad, hard, gone wrong) colors the root's neutral sense of physical agitation into emotional disturbance.
