masc nom sg of nikkhitta (pp)
Analysis. nik + khitta: nis (out of, away from) + khipati (throw), giving "thrown out" or "cast away"; the nis-prefix here marks removal or ejection.
Etymology. The root √khip (throw, cast) combines with the prefix nis- (out of, away from), which derives from the same Indo-European root as English nether and German nieder. The spatial imagery of "out" and "away" became extended to mean placed aside, stored, or figuratively spoken. Sanskrit nikṣipta is cognate.
