pr 1st sg of papatati (verb); imp 1st sg of papatati (verb)
Etymology. √pat (fall, fly) + prefix pa- (forward, forth). The root is cognate with Latin patēre (lie open, be exposed) and Greek piptein (fall); the prefix pa- adds the sense of falling forward or downward into a state. In the canon, often used metaphorically for moral descent: 'falls away from the Dhamma', 'falls into suffering'.
