Analysis. pari- (around, completely) + suddha (cleaned, pure, past participle of √sudh). The prefix pari- intensifies suddha to mean cleansing that is complete and thorough.
Etymology. From √sudh 'to clean, purify' (cognate with Sanskrit śuddha 'pure', from Indo-European *sweud- 'to sweat, exude': the concrete sense of sweating out impurity becomes purification). The prefix pari- (around, all the way round, from Proto-Indo-European *peri-, cognate with Greek perí and Latin per-) adds the sense of completeness: things cleaned all around, utterly purified.
