Etymology. From Proto-Indo-European *per- 'forward, across, beyond'. Cognates: English 'far', Latin 'per-', Greek 'peri-'. The root sense 'across' developed to mean 'the other side' and hence 'other, beyond'. In Pali, paro as adverb is the neuter nominative-accusative, used adverbially to mean 'further, beyond, upwards'.
