Etymology. From √sād (to taste, sit), an ancient root found in Sanskrit sāda-, sādya- (tasted, experienced). The form sāyita appears to show an irregular or dialectal past participle formation from this root. Sanskrit cognates include asādam 'tasteless' and sādaka 'tasting'; the root is related to Latin satiō (sitting, settlement) through the deeper sense of something becoming settled or established in the mouth.
