genitive plural of sakya (noun, m.)
Etymology. The Sakyas were a republican clan of north India (modern Nepal border region); the name is of uncertain origin, possibly from a root meaning 'to be able' or 'strength', though this remains speculative. The Buddha was born into this clan and is often called Sakyamuni 'the Sage of the Sakyas'.
