pr 3rd sg of sikkhati (verb)
Etymology. From √sikh 'to sharpen, to make pointed'. The root conveys the image of sharpening the mind through discipline. Related to Sanskrit śikṣati (trains, teaches) and perhaps distantly to English 'sharp' (both imply keen precision). In Buddhist contexts, training (sikkhā, sikkhati) is the gradual honing of wisdom and conduct.
