pr 3rd pl of vedayati (verb)
Etymology. Causative (ya-suffix) of √vid 'to know', hence 'causes to know'. The root vid is cognate with English 'wit' (in the sense of knowledge), Latin 'videre' (to see), and Sanskrit 'vid-'. The semantic range shows how knowing in Pali moves easily from perception ('sense, feel') to disclosure ('make known, inform').
