reflx aor 3rd sg of vimucci (verb); aor 2nd pl of vimucci (verb)
Etymology. vi- (apart, asunder) + mucci, from √muc (to release, loosen). The prefix vi- gives the sense of complete release or separation. √muc is cognate with English 'muck' in the sense of 'to remove' and Latin mucus; the root appears in mucchati 'to be confused' and related forms suggesting a primary sense of loosening or letting slip. In Buddhist usage, vimutti (liberation) is the cornerstone term for freedom from saṁsāra.
