adjective, singular neuter nominative (or accusative)
Analysis. vi-veka-ja: vi (apart, asunder) + veka (separation, solitude) + ja (born of, produced by). The prefix vi- applied to √i (go) produces veka, 'parting, solitude'; ja is the participial adjective 'born of'. So 'born of the going-apart', i.e. resulting from seclusion or detachment.
Etymology. vi- (apart, asunder) + √i (go, cognate with English go, Latin īre) + -ja (born of). Veka ('solitude, detachment') is found in early Buddhist Pali as the fruit of the yogin's withdrawal from sensuality; vivekajaṁ marks joy or joy-and-equanimity (pīti, upekkhā) arising from meditative seclusion.
