notNa andca should do slightestkhuddamācare anythingkiñci,
by whichYena wiseviññū otherspare would blameupavadeyyuṁ;
happySukhino indeedva safekhemino may they behontu,
all beingsSabbasattā may they bebhavantu happysukhitattā.

whicheverYe whateverkeci living beings there arepāṇabhūtatthi,
frailTasā or firmthāvarā with not a one left outvanavasesā;
longDīghā or whichye orva largemahantā,
mediumMajjhimā smallrassakā tiny or roundaṇukathūlā.

seenDiṭṭhā or whoye orva unseenadiṭṭhā,
whoYe orva fardūre they dwellvasanti nearavidūre;
those who have been bornBhūtā orva those about to be bornsambhavesī orva,
all beingsSabbasattā may they bebhavantu happysukhitattā.

notNa oneparo anotherparaṁ should deceivenikubbetha,
nor look down onNātimaññetha anywherekatthaci notna anyonekañci;
through provocationByārosanā aggrieved perceptionpaṭighasañña,
on each otherNāññamaññassa should wish paindukkhamiccheyya.

a motherMātā asyathā her ownniyaṁ childputtam
with her lifeĀyusā would protect her only childekaputtamanurakkhe;
so tooEvampi toward all creaturessabbabhūtesu,
a heartMānasaṁ unfoldbhāvaye boundlessaparimāṇaṁ.

and loveMettañca for the whole worldsabbalokasmi,
heartMānasaṁ unfoldbhāvaye boundlessaparimāṇaṁ;
aboveUddhaṁ belowadho andca and all roundtiriyañca,
unconstrictedAsambādhaṁ without enmity or foeaveramasapattaṁ.

standingTiṭṭhaṁ walkingcaraṁ sittingnisinno orva,
lying downSayāno while yet unwearyyāvatāssa unwearyvitamiddho;
thisEtaṁ mindfulnesssatiṁ should keepadhiṭṭheyya,
this, a divineBrahmametaṁ they say, is a meditation in this lifevihāramidhamāhu.

and viewDiṭṭhiñca not having gone toanupaggamma,
virtuousSīlavā with insightdassanena accomplishedsampanno;
in sensual pleasuresKāmesu dispelledvinaya desiregedhaṁ,
notNa indeedhi to a womb againjātuggabbhaseyya they returnpunaretīti.
