thusEvaṁ by meme heardsutaṁ—
oneekaṁ timesamayaṁ the Buddhabhagavā at Sāvatthīsāvatthiyaṁ was stayingviharati in Jeta's Grovejetavane Anāthapiṇḍika'sanāthapiṇḍikassa monasteryārāme.
thereTatra indeedkho the Buddhabhagavā mendicantsbhikkhū addressedāmantesi:
“Mendicants!”“bhikkhavo”ti.
“Venerable sir,”“Bhadante”ti thosete mendicantsbhikkhū to the Buddhabhagavato repliedpaccassosuṁ.
the BuddhaBhagavā said thisetadavoca:

I“Ahaṁ indeedkho, monksbhikkhave, one-sitting foodekāsanabhojanaṁ I eatbhuñjāmi;
one-sitting foodekāsanabhojanaṁ indeedkho, Iahaṁ, monksbhikkhave, eatingbhuñjamāno health andappābādhatañca I knowsañjānāmi wellness andappātaṅkatañca nimbleness andlahuṭṭhānañca strength andbalañca comfortable living andphāsuvihārañca.
comeEtha, you tootumhepi, monksbhikkhave, one-sitting foodekāsanabhojanaṁ you should eatbhuñjatha;
one-sitting foodekāsanabhojanaṁ indeedkho, monksbhikkhave, you tootumhepi eatingbhuñjamānā health andappābādhatañca you will knowsañjānissatha wellness andappātaṅkatañca nimbleness andlahuṭṭhānañca strength andbalañca comfortable livingphāsuvihārañcā”ti.

thusEvaṁ when saidvutte, Venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli to the Buddhabhagavantaṁ said thisetadavoca:
I“ahaṁ indeedkho, sirbhante, notna I am ableussahāmi one-sitting eatingekāsanabhojanaṁ to eatbhuñjituṁ;
for one-sitting eatingekāsanabhojanañhi for meme, sirbhante, while eatingbhuñjato there might besiyā remorsekukkuccaṁ, there might besiyā regretvippaṭisāro”ti.

by that“Tena thenhi youtvaṁ, Bhaddālibhaddāli, whereyattha invitednimantito you areassasi theretattha one partekadesaṁ having eatenbhuñjitvā one partekadesaṁ having brought outnīharitvāpi you should eatbhuñjeyyāsi.
even thusEvampi indeedkho youtvaṁ, Bhaddālibhaddāli, eatingbhuñjamāno with one seatekāsano you will sustainyāpessasī”ti.
even thus“Evampi indeedkho Iahaṁ, sirbhante, notna I attemptussahāmi to eatbhuñjituṁ;
even thusevampi forhi for meme, sirbhante, eatingbhuñjato there might besiyā remorsekukkuccaṁ, there might besiyā regretvippaṭisāro”ti.
thenAtha indeedkho venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli by the Buddhabhagavatā training rulesikkhāpade being laid downpaññāpiyamāne in the Saṅgha of bhikkhusbhikkhusaṅghe trainingsikkhaṁ undertakingsamādiyamāne non-attemptanussāhaṁ he announcedpavedesi.
thenAtha indeedkho venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli allsabbaṁ thattaṁ three monthstemāsaṁ notna of the Buddhabhagavato face-to-facenesssammukhībhāvaṁ he gaveadāsi, asyathā thattaṁ in the Teacher's instructionsatthusāsane of the trainingsikkhāya one not fulfilling fullyaparipūrakārī.

at thatTena indeedkho thenpana at the timesamayena severalsambahulā mendicantsbhikkhū for the Blessed Onebhagavato robe-makingcīvarakammaṁ they dokaronti—
with finished robeniṭṭhitacīvaro the Blessed Onebhagavā after three monthstemāsaccayena wanderingcārikaṁ will set outpakkamissatīti.

thenAtha indeedkho venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli whereyena thosete monksbhikkhū he approachedtenupasaṅkami; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā with thosetehi with monksbhikkhūhi togethersaddhiṁ he exchanged greetingssammodi.
greetingSammodanīyaṁ conversationkathaṁ politesāraṇīyaṁ having exchangedvītisāretvā to one sideekamantaṁ he sat downnisīdi. to one sideEkamantaṁ seatednisinnaṁ indeedkho venerableāyasmantaṁ Bhaddālibhaddāliṁ thosete monksbhikkhū they said thisetadavocuṁ:
this“idaṁ indeedkho, friendāvuso Bhaddālibhaddāli, for the Blessed Onebhagavato robe-makingcīvarakammaṁ is being donekarīyati.
whose robe is finishedNiṭṭhitacīvaro the Blessed Onebhagavā with the passing of three monthstemāsaccayena wanderingcārikaṁ will set outpakkamissati.
come on, friendIṅghāvuso Bhaddālibhaddāli, thisetaṁ faultdosakaṁ properlysādhukaṁ in mindmanasi makekarohi, do notmā for youte laterpacchā harderdukkarataraṁ it becameahosī”ti.

“Yes, reverends,”“Evamāvuso”ti indeedkho venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli of thosetesaṁ of the monksbhikkhūnaṁ having repliedpaṭissutvā whereyena the Blessed Onebhagavā he approachedtenupasaṅkami; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā to the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ having bowedabhivādetvā to one sideekamantaṁ sat downnisīdi. to one sideEkamantaṁ seatednisinno indeedkho venerableāyasmā Bhaddālibhaddāli to the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ said thisetadavoca:
a mistake“accayo memaṁ, sirbhante, overcameaccagamā like a foolyathābālaṁ like one confusedyathāmūḷhaṁ like one unskillfulyathāakusalaṁ, that Iyohaṁ by the Blessed Onebhagavatā in the training rulesikkhāpade being laid downpaññāpiyamāne in the Saṅgha of monksbhikkhusaṅghe the trainingsikkhaṁ being undertakensamādiyamāne non-effortanussāhaṁ I announcedpavedesiṁ.
of thatTassa mineme, sirbhante, the Blessed Onebhagavā the mistakeaccayaṁ as a mistakeaccayato may he acceptpaṭiggaṇhātu in futureāyatiṁ for restraint”saṁvarāyā”ti.

indeed“Taggha youtvaṁ, Bhaddālibhaddāli, a mistakeaccayo you madeaccagamā foolishyathābālaṁ stupidyathāmūḷhaṁ unskillfulyathāakusalaṁ, thatyaṁ youtvaṁ by memayā training rulesikkhāpade being laid downpaññāpiyamāne Saṅgha of monksbhikkhusaṅghe the trainingsikkhaṁ undertakingsamādiyamāne you would not attemptanussāhaṁ you announcedpavedesi.
