thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro the potterkumbhakāro Jotipālajotipālaṁ the brahmin studentmāṇavaṁ by the skirt-hemovaṭṭikāyaṁ having grabbedparāmasitvā said thisetadavoca:
this‘ayaṁ, dearsamma Jotipālajotipāla, of Kassapakassapassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato of the perfected onearahato of the fully awakened Buddhasammāsambuddhassa not faravidūre the monasteryārāmo.
let us goĀyāma, dearsamma Jotipālajotipāla, Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the perfected onearahantaṁ the fully awakened Buddhasammāsambuddhaṁ to seedassanāya we will approachupasaṅkamissāma.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro potterkumbhakāro Jotipālajotipālaṁ young manmāṇavaṁ with freshly-washed headsīsaṁnhātaṁ by the hairskesesu having grabbedparāmasitvā said thisetadavoca:
this‘ayaṁ, dearsamma Jotipālajotipāla, of Kassapakassapassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato of the perfected onearahato of the fully awakened Buddhasammāsambuddhassa not faravidūre monasteryārāmo.
let us goĀyāma, dearsamma Jotipālajotipāla, Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the perfected onearahantaṁ the fully awakened Buddhasammāsambuddhaṁ for seeingdassanāya we will approachupasaṅkamissāma.

notna this herevatidaṁ reportedlykira ordinaryorakaṁ I deemmaññe will bebhavissatī’ti;

to this extent only‘yāvatādohipi, dearsamma Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikārā’ti?

soTathā indeedhi thenpana by meme holy is deemedsādhusammataṁ of thattassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato the seeingdassanaṁ of the perfected onearahato of the fully awakened Buddhasammāsambuddhassā’ti.
then‘Tena indeedhi, dearsamma Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāra, releasemuñca; we shall gogamissāmā’ti.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro andca potterkumbhakāro Jotipālajotipālo andca studentmāṇavo whereyena Kassapakassapo Blessed Onebhagavā arahantarahaṁ perfectly awakenedsammāsambuddho approachedtenupasaṅkamiṁsu; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro potterkumbhakāro Kassapakassapaṁ Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ arahantarahantaṁ perfectly awakenedsammāsambuddhaṁ having bowedabhivādetvā to one sideekamantaṁ sat downnisīdi. this‘ayaṁ myme, sirbhante, Jotipālajotipālo studentmāṇavo friendsahāyo dear friendpiyasahāyo.
to this oneImassa Blessed Onebhagavā Dhammadhammaṁ let him teachdesetū’ti.
thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Kassapakassapo Blessed Onebhagavā arahantarahaṁ perfectly awakenedsammāsambuddho and Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikārañca potterkumbhakāraṁ and Jotipālajotipālañca studentmāṇavaṁ with a Dhammadhammiyā talkkathāya educatedsandassesi encouragedsamādapesi fired upsamuttejesi inspiredsampahaṁsesi.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro andca the potterkumbhakāro Jotipālajotipālo andca the brahmin studentmāṇavo by Kassapakassapena by the Blessed Onebhagavatā by the arahantarahatā by the fully awakened onesammāsambuddhena with a Dhammadhammiyā talkkathāya instructedsandassitā urgedsamādapitā rousedsamuttejitā gladdenedsampahaṁsitā of Kassapakassapassa of the Blessed Onebhagavato of the arahantarahato of the fully awakened onesammāsambuddhassa speechbhāsitaṁ having rejoiced inabhinanditvā having approvedanumoditvā having risen from the seatuṭṭhāyāsanā Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the arahantarahantaṁ the fully awakened onesammāsambuddhaṁ having bowed down toabhivādetvā keeping on the rightpadakkhiṇaṁ having donekatvā they departedpakkamiṁsu.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Jotipālajotipālo young brahminmāṇavo Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāraṁ potterkumbhakāraṁ said thisetadavoca:
this‘imaṁ thennu youtvaṁ, dearsamma Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāra, teachingdhammaṁ hearingsuṇanto thenatha andca butpana from homeagārasmā to homelessnessanagāriyaṁ notna you will go forthpabbajissasī’ti?
do not‘Nanu memaṁ, dearsamma Jotipālajotipāla, you knowjānāsi, blindandhe oldjiṇṇe parentsmātāpitaro I supportposemī’ti?
then‘Tena wellhi, dearsamma Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāra, Iahaṁ from homeagārasmā to homelessnessanagāriyaṁ I shall go forthpabbajissāmī’ti.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro andca the potterkumbhakāro Jotipālajotipālo andca studentmāṇavo whereyena Kassapakassapo the Blessed Onebhagavā the worthy onearahaṁ the fully awakened onesammāsambuddho they approached himtenupasaṅkamiṁsu; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the worthy onearahantaṁ the fully awakened onesammāsambuddhaṁ having bowed downabhivādetvā to one sideekamantaṁ they sat downnisīdiṁsu. to one sideEkamantaṁ seatednisinno indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Ghaṭīkāraghaṭikāro the potterkumbhakāro Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the worthy onearahantaṁ the fully awakened onesammāsambuddhaṁ he said thisetadavoca:
this‘ayaṁ myme, sirbhante, Jotipālajotipālo studentmāṇavo friendsahāyo dear friendpiyasahāyo.
this oneImaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavā let him go forthpabbājetū’ti.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Kassapakassapo the Blessed Onebhagavā the worthy onearahaṁ the fully awakened onesammāsambuddho not long after ordinationacirūpasampanne Jotipālajotipāle the young manmāṇave a fortnight after ordinationaḍḍhamāsupasampanne in Vebhaliṅgavegaḷiṅge as long as he pleasedyathābhirantaṁ having stayedviharitvā towardsyena Varanasibārāṇasī towards ittena on tourcārikaṁ set outpakkāmi.
stage by stageAnupubbena on tourcārikaṁ travelingcaramāno towardsyena Varanasibārāṇasī he arrived at ittadavasari.

thenAtha indeedkho, Ānandaānanda, Kikīkikī king of Kāsikāsirājā fine, finebhadrāni fine, finebhadrāni carriagesyānāni having had harnessedyojāpetvā a finebhadraṁ carriageyānaṁ having mountedabhiruhitvā with fine, finebhadrehi with fine, finebhadrehi carriagesyānehi from Varanasibārāṇasiyā set outniyyāsi with great royal majestymahaccarājānubhāvena Kassapakassapaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ the Worthy Onearahantaṁ the Perfectly Enlightened Onesammāsambuddhaṁ to seedassanāya.
