thusEvaṁ by meme heard—sutaṁ—
oneekaṁ timesamayaṁ the Blessed Onebhagavā near Sāvatthīsāvatthiyaṁ was stayingviharati in Jeta's Grovejetavane of Anāthapiṇḍikaanāthapiṇḍikassa monastery.ārāme.

at thatTena indeedkho nowpana at that timesamayena a certainaññatarassa householder'sgahapatissa only childekaputtako dearpiyo belovedmanāpo passed awaykālaṅkato washoti.
theirTassa because of the deathkālaṅkiriyāya notneva workkammantā appealedpaṭibhanti notna foodbhattaṁ appealedpaṭibhāti.
heSo cremation groundāḷāhanaṁ having gonegantvā wailskandati:
where are you“kahaṁ, my only childekaputtaka, where are youkahaṁ, my only childekaputtakā”ti.

thenAtha indeedkho thatso householdergahapati whereyena the Blessed Onebhagavā he approached himtenupasaṅkami; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā the Blessed Onebhagavantaṁ having bowedabhivādetvā to one sideekamantaṁ he sat downnisīdi. to one sideEkamantaṁ seatednisinnaṁ indeedkho thattaṁ householdergahapatiṁ the Blessed Onebhagavā said thisetadavoca:
not“na indeedkho yourte, householdergahapati, ownsake mindcitte of one standingṭhitassa facultiesindriyāni, there areatthi yourte of the facultiesindriyānaṁ deteriorationaññathattan”ti.
for what“Kiñhi myme, sirbhante, of the facultiesindriyānaṁ no deteriorationnāññathattaṁ will bebhavissati;
for mymayhañhi, sirbhante, only childekaputto dearpiyo belovedmanāpo passed awaykālaṅkato.
of thatTassa because of passing awaykālaṅkiriyāya not evenneva workkammantā they appealpaṭibhanti, notna foodbhattaṁ it appealspaṭibhāti.

thenAtha nowkho thatso householdergahapati whereyena thosete gamblersakkhadhuttā approached themtenupasaṅkami; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā to the gamblersakkhadhutte said thisetadavoca:
here I“idhāhaṁ, sirsbhonto, whereyena the asceticsamaṇo Gotamagotamo approached himtenupasaṅkamiṁ; having approachedupasaṅkamitvā the asceticsamaṇaṁ Gotamagotamaṁ having greetedabhivādetvā to one sideekamantaṁ I sat downnisīdiṁ. to one sideEkamantaṁ seatednisinnaṁ nowkho memaṁ, sirsbhonto, the asceticsamaṇo Gotamagotamo said thisetadavoca:
not‘na nowkho yourte, householdergahapati, in your ownsake mindcitte abidingṭhitassa facultiesindriyāni, there areatthi yourte of the facultiesindriyānaṁ abnormalityaññathattan’ti.
thusEvaṁ when saidvutte, Iahaṁ, sirsbhonto, to the asceticsamaṇaṁ Gotamagotamaṁ said thisetadavocaṁ:
what indeed‘kiñhi for meme, revered sirbhante, of the facultiesindriyānaṁ no abnormalitynāññathattaṁ will bebhavissati;
for me indeedmayhañhi, revered sirbhante, only sonekaputtako dearpiyo belovedmanāpo has diedkālaṅkato.
of thatTassa because of the deathkālaṅkiriyāya not indeedneva workkammantā appealspaṭibhanti, notna foodbhattaṁ appealspaṭibhāti.

so it is“Evametaṁ, householdergahapati, so it isevametaṁ, householdergahapati.

just soEvameva indeedkho youtvaṁ, Mallikāmallike, whateveryaññadeva asceticsamaṇo Gotamagotamo saysbhāsati thattaṁ agrees with ittadevassa you agreeabbhanumodasi:
if that‘Sacetaṁ, great kingmahārāja, by the Buddhabhagavatā spokenbhāsitaṁ then that's how it isevametan’ti.
