past participle (ptp) passive, nom. sg. masc.
Analysis. a- (not) + yojjha (to be fought, from √yuj 'to join, fight'); literally 'not to be joined/fought against'.
Etymology. The negative prefix a- (Sanskrit/PIE: un-, not) prefixes yojjha, the passive potential participle of yujjati ('fights, joins'; Sanskrit yujyate). The root √yuj ('to join, yoke') appears in English 'yoke' and Latin iungō ('join'), both from Proto-Indo-European *yeug-. In Pali, yojjha ('fightable') is the passive potential form; a- negates it to mean 'not fightable, invincible'.
