accusative singular neuter of bhogga (adjective)
Analysis. No compound or contracted form; bhogga is a simple derived adjective.
Etymology. From √bhuj (bhunjati, 'to enjoy, use'), with -ya- suffix (giving bhujya-) contracted to bhogga. Related to Sanskrit bhojya. The root √bhuj appears in English 'bogey' only by accident of sound; the genuine cognate is Sanskrit bhóga, 'enjoyment', from Indo-European *bʰewg- 'to bend, use' (though the connection is remote). In Pali canon, bhogga often qualifies requisites (bhesajja-bhogga, 'medicine to be used') and marks what is permissible for consumption by the saṅgha.
