masc instr pl of gijjha (noun); masc abl pl of gijjha (noun)
Etymology. Cognate with Sanskrit गृद्ध (gṛddha) 'vulture'; both from a root *gerbh- meaning 'to grab, seize, devour', visible also in Sanskrit गर्भ (garbha) 'womb' (that which seizes/holds) and distantly in English 'grab'. The bird's name reflects its predatory seizing and tearing of food.
