masculine accusative singular
Etymology. A proper name of the Śākyans' clan, later an epithet of the Buddha (Bhagavā Gotamo). The etymology within Pali is uncertain; possibly related to gotamā 'cattle' (√go 'cow'), making it a patronymic ('descendant of the cattle-breeders'), but this is speculative.
