pr 1st sg of hoti (verb); imp 1st sg of hoti (verb)
Etymology. Root √bhū (also bhav-), "to be, become, grow"; cognate with English "be", Greek phúō (φύω) "to grow, produce", Latin "fui" (perfect of esse "to be"), and Sanskrit bhavati. The present stem hoti shows regular Pali sound changes from Indo-European *bʰeuH- (be, become, grow). The prefix-less verb is primary and transparent in meaning.
