ind.

  1. now; soon; at present

Built from

Etymology. From the demonstrative stem i- (this, here) + the locative-temporal suffix -dāni (when, at what time); compare Sanskrit idānīm, formed similarly. The suffix -dāni derives from an old locative of *dā (time, division), akin to Sanskrit dā (divide, distribute) and distantly related to English "tide" (a marked division of time).
