Analysis. na + rādheti: negative prefix na + rādheti (succeeds, accomplishes), the negation of rādheti.

Etymology. From √radh (to succeed, accomplish, satisfy), with the negative prefix na-. The root √radh appears in Sanskrit as √rādh, cognate with Latin rādīx (root, radish) through the shared sense of 'going down and taking hold'; the negative na- (< Indo-European *ne, English no, Latin nē-) inverts the sense to failure or non-accomplishment. In Pali doctrine, nārādheti describes the Buddha's incomparable virtue and skill: ordinary desires and aversions do not satisfy (do not win over) the awakened mind.
