pr 3rd sg of pāteti (verb)
Etymology. Causative of pati (to fall), from the root √pat meaning 'to fall' or 'to fly'. The root √pat cognates with Latin patere (to lie open, be exposed) and Sanskrit patati (falls, flies). The causative -eti suffix (also -ti in some verbs) derives from the causative morpheme creating the sense 'causes [someone/something] to fall' from the intransitive root.
