pr 3rd pl of upakkamati (verb)
Analysis. upa + akkamati: upa 'up close to, near' (approaching) + akkamati 'goes, walks' (√kam); literally 'goes up toward', hence undertakes, attacks, or begins an action with purpose and force.
Etymology. upa- (approach, draw near; cognate with Sanskrit upa-, Greek hypo-, Latin sub-, English up) + √kam (to go, walk; cognate with Sanskrit kram-, Latin gradus 'step', Greek basis 'step'). The prefix upa- retains its spatial sense of 'approaching' inside the abstract meanings of undertaking and assault.
